Gately, Bono & Lynott Among Ireland's Greatest

Tragic BOYZONE star STEPHEN GATELY, BONO and late THIN LIZZY rocker PHIL LYNOTT have topped a new list of Ireland's greatest people.

Bosses at broadcasting network RTE asked Irish radio listeners and TV viewers to vote for their favourite local heroes from a list of 40.

After 12 days of public voting, the shortlist has been reduced to 10 names.

And joining political figures like Michael Collins, Dr. Noel Browne, John Connolly and President Mary Robinson are rockers Lynott and Bono and pop star Gately.

The Irish icons who make up the final top five, as nominated by voters, will become the subject of five new documentaries, which will air on RTE in September (10).

Ireland's Greatest person will be announced on Ireland's top talk show, The Late Late Show, in October (10).

Scouting For Girls, Boyzone Top U.K. Charts

London pop trio Scouting For Girls scored their first U.K. No. 1 single on the new sales charts published yesterday (Sunday) by the Official Charts Company with "This Ain't A Love Song" (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment). Boyzone's "Brother" (Polydor/Universal) started a second consecutive and third aggregate week atop the album chart.

Scouting For Girls made their U.K. chart debut in the summer of 2007 with the minor top 40 hit "It's Not About You," after which they scored consecutive top ten singles with "She's So Lovely" and "Elvis Ain't Dead." A third top ten hit, "Heartbeat," followed in 2008, but "Love Song" is the band's first bestseller, and precedes their second album "Everybody Wants To Be on TV," due for British release next Monday (12).

Lady Gaga's "Telephone" (Interscope/Universal), featuring Beyoncé, No. 1 on the singles survey for the last two weeks, fell to No. 2 and was followed by two more new entries. U.K. rapper Plan B, a.k.a. Londoner Ben Drew, debuted at No. 3 with "She Said" (679/Atlantic/Warner Music), his second top ten single after January's "Stay Too Long." Plan B was also the featured rapper on "End Credits," a top ten hit for Chase & Status last November.

New at No. 4, becoming the highest-charting single in a U.K. singles chart career spanning almost 13 years, was "History Maker" (Survivor) by the English Christian band Delirious?. Ironically, their first top tenner after seven previous top 40 singles comes a few months after Delirious? announced that they were disbanding. The track, a longtime live favorite from the band's 1997 album "King of Fools," was the subject of a Facebook campaign to get it to No. 1 for Easter on the U.K. chart.

Also having a good singles week were "Omg" (LaFace/Sony Music Entertainment) by Usher featuring will.i.am, which climbed 13-8, and "Carry Out" (Interscope/Universal) by Timbaland featuring Justin Timberlake, up 29-16.

Boyzone stayed at No. 1 in an unchanged top three on the album chart, with Lady Gaga's "The Fame" (Interscope/Universal) still at No. 2 and Justin Bieber's "My World" (Def Jam/Universal) steady at No. 3. The highest new entry, at No. 10, was "The Very Best of Free & Bad Company" (Rhino/UMTV), the first collection combining catalog material by two bands fronted by English rock vocalist Paul Rodgers. Released to coincide with U.K. shows by the reunited Bad Company line-up, it charted at an impressive No. 10 after some high-profile promo work by Rodgers, and becomes Bad Company's first top ten album appearance since "Desolation Angels" reached No. 10 in 1979, and Free's first since "The Best of Free - All Right Now" hit No. 9 in 1991.

On Billboard's pan-European sales charts, Amy Macdonald's "A Curious Thing" (Mercury/Universal) is in a second week atop European Albums listing, while Stromae's "Alors On Danse" (Mosaert/Vertigo/Universal) spends a second consecutive and third aggregate week at No. 1 on Hot 100 Singles.

Boyzone released a new song featuring Stephen Gately

Boyzone have announced the release of their first song since the death of Stephen Gately.

Gave It All Away, which features the late singer's vocals, is due out on 1 March, to be followed by a new album, Brother, on 8 March.Gately died, aged 33, at his Majorcan holiday home in October last year. He sings the song's opening lines: "I will learn to live before I die". The accompanying video is "incredibly raw," said singer Ronan Keating.
It features archive video of Gately and his band-members, intercut with newly-filmed scenes of the group writing letters to their "other brother".
Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham are also seen shedding a tear for their former bandmate.
"It's us reminiscing about the good times and the laughter," explained Keating.
"There's a nice scene of us four brothers sat around a table... with Stephen's favourite picture hanging up behind us.
"Phil (Griffin, director) just filmed us fly-on-the-wall for that so it's just us as we are," he added.
"We wanted the footage to be as truthful and honest as possible based on how we were feeling and were reacting during the making of the video on that day," he added.
But Keating said the band "didn't want it being too mournful all the way through".
Vocals for the song, written by Mika, were recorded in the summer of 2009, following Boyzone's sell-out UK tour.
The Irish band have clocked up four number one albums, and 16 consecutive top five singles in the UK.
In October, a post mortem revealed Gately had died of natural causes.

Nadine Coyle joins Boyzone on stage for emotional Stephen Gately tribute night

Just five months ago, they received the shattering news that their beloved band member and 'brother' had died.

But last night Boyzone ensured Stephen Gately's memory lived on as they sang some of their favourite songs during an hour-long tribute.
The boys - Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch - were joined by a host of stars on stage for special one-off commemorative performances.
Londonderry-born Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, who grew up as a fan of the Irish band, lent her support to the night and sang their top ten hit Love Me For A Reason, taking on Stephen's vocals.
She wore a flowing, plunging grey dress, split down the chest, all the way down to her stomach.
Speaking about her performance on the show, which was screened on ITV, Nadine said: 'I am very honoured to be a part of this special tribute, I have grown up watching Boyzone being that I am from Ireland.
'I am very moved to be singing Stephen’s part with Boyzone on Love Me For a Reason in the show as he is a great friend and he is dearly missed.'

Fellow Irish band Westlife also took a turn on stage, making it the first joint performance between the two bands, and sang No Matter What.

And Mika, who wrote the band's latest hit Gave It All Away, joined the band on stage and sang the track with them.
The song was originally meant to be their comeback single and Gately had laid down vocals for it around two years ago - however Mika wouldn't allow them to release it at the time.

Though it has been indicated Boyzone may quit touring due to Gately's death, Keating recently stated at a solo concert in New Zealand that Boyzone may tour there by the end of 2010. Ronan has also hinted at a future tour to Sky News despite the "pain" over Stephen Gately's death. On March 21st, Boyzone's official website confirmed that the group will indeed be touring in February 2011. Currently, 12 dates have been announced.

Tributes

Boyzone has been commemorated by the London's Rock Circus by inviting them to place their hand prints on the "Walls of Hands" beside the likes of Eric Clapton and Michael Jackson.

Boyzone - Brother (2009–present)

Despite rumours of them cancelling the new album Keating, denied these allegations and revealed that Boyzone would release a new album as a tribute to Gately in 2010 which included two new songs that were sung by Stephen Gately before his death.

One song was written by singer-songwriter Mika who has also claimed that the new song he wrote for Boyzone is the last one which will feature Stephen Gately's vocals, released as their fourth studio album on 8 March 2010.

The track written by Mika became the lead single from the new album, titled "Gave It All Away". Boyzone loved this track and wished to release this song as their comeback single. The song received its first airplay on 17 January 2010.^[14] Mikey Graham stated that Gave It All Away will be released on 1 March 2010 and the album will be released a week afterwards.

From 10 January 2010 to 7 March 2010 Mikey was a contestant on the fifth series of Dancing on Ice. He was Eliminated in the 9th week of the competition after being in the "Skate-Off" with EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook, he lost with 2 votes to Westbrook's 3.

Their fourth studio album Brother was released on 8 March 2010 and become their fourth studio number one album so far.

Boyzone Band - Death of Stephen Gately

On 10 October 2009, Stephen Gately died at the age of 33 while on holiday in Majorca with his civil partner Andrew Cowles. On 13 October 2009, AP reports that a post-mortem showed Gately died as a result of a pulmonary edema, or fluid in the lungs. The Balearic Islands Superior Justice Tribunal said in a statement. "The singer of the Irish group Boyzone died from natural causes, owing to an 'acute pulmonary edema'".

Though still finding it difficult to come to terms with his sudden death Lynch has recently claimed that Gately died for a reason. He is reported as saying "I've got to understand that it's all for a reason. If I don't understand why then one day I'll be told – but not right now."
